Wal-Mart Effect

John Karpinski's brief summary of our case

SALMON CREEK WAL-MART

My name is Bridget Schwarz and I have the distinction, along with the Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association (FGNA), of being named in a State of Washington Superior Court case. That’s because Wal Mart appealed Clark County’s decision to deny their proposed Super Center next to the Holiday Inn in Salmon Creek.

There are two reasons for widespread community support to stop this project. First, it is a site fight. The location is simply unsuitable for any development that would have enormous traffic and environmental impacts.

Second, it is a community fight. Wal Mart’s only loyalty is to their stockholders. Their profits are based on a business model (cheap prices) that leads to what many consider objectionable business policies and practices.

We have a strong case. Wal Mart has to rely on a community reaction that “it’s inevitable.” WRONG! For over 2 years we have brought the largest corporation in the world to a standstill in Salmon Creek.

Last summer we began to fall behind on our legal expenses. Our attorney, John Karpinski has moved forward with us anyway for two reasons. John believes in our cause, and he knows how much sleep I lose worrying about paying our bill. :>)

Please send us a donation. It is a bold request, but could you send us $100? (Most do, but any amount is welcome.). You can use the Paypal <Donate> button on our web site or mail to FGNA at P.O. Box 61731, Vancouver WA 98663. Thanks for your support!

Bridget
