neighborhood concerns
The proposed Salmon Creek Wal-Mart is located within the borders of the Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association. The association has been involved in an extended (and expensive) legal process related to the siting of this store. We invite you to read the legal stuff.
WAL-MART BUSINESS PRACTICES
Shoppers should have low price alternatives. With 2 stores in Clark County, 2 under construction, Salmon Creek in the review process and several more rumored locations Wal-Mart continues to dramatically expand their presence in Clark County.
A growing coalition of local community and business groups is concerned about Wal Mart’s business practices. Taxpayers provide huge subsidies to Wal-Mart workers because they earn below poverty wages and lack benefits. Suppliers move their manufacturing off-shore because of Wal-Mart’s demand for low price points. To remain competitive, local businesses must join Wal-Mart’s race to the bottom. Local governments must fund increased transportation infrastructure and public safety costs.
The proposed Salmon Creek Wal-Mart Super Center will impact more than the local neighborhood. It will negatively impact the entire region’s economy and quality of life.
We urge you to get informed and get involved. Support our efforts as described below. Then go to www.wakeupwalmart.com to join a national grass roots movement to insist that Wal-Mart be held accountable to community standards and values.
